12 June 2024PERTUIS-France, 2nd of May 2024 – Viasat (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global leader in satellite communications, and Miratlas, a leading atmospheric data provider, today announced an agreement to improve atmospheric understanding through modelling.
Viasat is continuously looking at technology innovation to improve user experience and provide market leading products and services. As part of this effort, Viasat is working on enhances Free Space Optics capabilities. To help this development area, Viasat is leveraging Miratlas’ expertise in atmospheric characterization to optimize its ground resources.
Under the terms of a 3-year contract, Viasat is entrusting Miratlas with simulations and analysis of the transatmospheric propagation channel.
Alessandro Matheoud, Viasat’s Optical Unit System lead, said: “Atmospheric modelling and measurement represent one of the key technologies challenges for the development of an optical space-to-ground system. By working with Miratlas, we can use their expertise to meet this challenge and deliver efficiently for our customers.”
Jean-Edouard Communal, Ph.D, CEO and Co-founder of Miratlas, added: “With this agreement we will provide our innovative atmospheric measurement and modelling solutions to Viasat helping them to enable direct to Earth Laser communication. The security and capacity provided by laser communications allows the convergence of Satcom towards Telecom.
